Wales Menopause Network: Celebrating Our Successful Second All Wales Menopause Conference

On 4th November 2023, the Wales Menopause Network proudly hosted the second All Wales Menopause Conference at the prestigious Medical Institute, Wrexham Maelor Hospital in North Wales. This conference was a significant occasion in the calendar for healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the understanding and treatment of menopause.

A Hybrid Conference Experience

Embracing modern communication technology, this year’s conference was delivered in a hybrid format, allowing for both face-to-face and virtual attendance. This approach not only accommodated local healthcare professionals but also enabled wider participation, reaching delegates from various regions, including those in developing countries like India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Esteemed Speakers and Comprehensive Topics

The conference featured a lineup of eminent speakers renowned in the field of menopause, presenting a diverse range of topics essential for contemporary practice. The programme included in-depth discussions on:

  • Menopausal Bone and Heart Health: Professor John Stevenson delivered an excellent talk on understanding the impacts of menopause on bone density, development of heart disease and strategies for management.
  • Mental Health: Professor Peter Lepping addressed the psychological aspects associated with menopause and how to support patients effectively.
  • Cancer: Dr Paula Briggs explored the intersection of menopause and cancer, focusing on risks, management strategies, and patient care.
  • Ethnic and Cultural Diversity: Dr Nadia Hikary-Bhal’s talk acknowledged how menopause experiences vary across different backgrounds and how to provide culturally competent care.
  • Alternative and Complementary Therapies: Dr Claudine Domoney discussed integrative approaches to managing menopause symptoms.

Attendee Engagement

The conference was attended by a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including doctors from both primary and secondary care, nurses, midwives, and medical students. We also welcomed members of the patient focus group, FTWW, who contributed valuable insights from the patient’s perspective. The collaboration among various healthcare disciplines fostered rich discussions and a shared commitment to improving menopause care.

Outstanding Feedback

We are thrilled to report that the overall feedback from the conference was exceptionally positive. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the high-quality presentations, the richness of the discussions, and the opportunity to network with peers and experts. The event not only enhanced knowledge and understanding but also inspired ongoing collaboration and innovation in menopause care across Wales and beyond.

The Wales Menopause Network is committed to continuing this important work and looks forward to future conferences that will foster education, collaboration, and advocacy for menopause management. Thank you to all who participated and contributed to the success of the second All Wales Menopause Conference. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of women experiencing menopause.
